The Cantabile Symphony Orchestra, based in Logatec, has been captivating audiences at home and abroad since its first performance in 2011. It was founded out of a sincere devotion to music, at the initiative of its founding members and conductor Marjan Grdadolnik, who continues to shape the orchestra’s artistic vision as its conductor and director.

The orchestra brings together 70 outstanding musicians — professors, students of music academies, and talented young artists who look toward a future in which music will be their life’s calling. Over more than thirteen seasons, Cantabile has established itself as an important part of the Slovenian and international musical landscape, creating a space for bold artistic ideas and the realisation of new, ambitious programs.

To date, the orchestra has performed more than 140 concerts in Slovenia and abroad, with guest appearances in France, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland. It has presented itself in more than forty cities, given several world premieres of contemporary compositions, and offered young, gifted musicians more than ninety solo opportunities. The orchestra regularly collaborates with acclaimed soloists and young virtuosos, many of whom take important steps in their artistic journeys through these collaborations.

The Cantabile Symphony Orchestra regularly collaborates with choirs and vocal soloists to prepare large-scale vocal-instrumental projects. In the past, it recorded music for the youth film Kresnik – The Fire Lore and film music for the publishing house Mladinska knjiga, released on two CDs. An important milestone in the orchestra’s history has been its participation in international festivals — including Des Anches d’Azur in La Croix-Valmer, France, where the orchestra delighted audiences and received several invitations to return. In 2024, Cantabile once again performed in Switzerland, and in 2025, it returned to France.

The orchestra’s repertoire includes works by classical masters from all stylistic periods, as well as film, ballet, and contemporary music. Its artistic work often reaches beyond the boundaries of classical tradition: the orchestra connects with performers from other genres and explores new forms of artistic expression. In September 2025, for example, it performed with the band Siddharta. It later joined forces with DJ Umek for the unique Red Bull Symphonic concert at the sold-out Križanke venue in Ljubljana, which received an exceptional audience response.

In addition to its concert activity, the orchestra has organised the Cantabile Summer Music Festival for 12 years, in cooperation with the Municipality of Logatec, serving as a meeting place for outstanding artists, young talents, and audiences. With artistic dedication, boldness, and a spirit of connection, the Cantabile Symphony Orchestra today stands as one of Slovenia’s most vibrant and recognisable orchestral stories. This orchestra inspires listeners at home and around the world with its energy, freshness, and excellence.
